Suggested change to make the proficiency matter:
"When you suffer any damage, freely reveal to reduce it by 1."

changes to:
"If proficient, when you suffer any damage, freely reveal to reduce it by 1."

It's supposed to be:
If proficient, when you suffer any damage, freely reveal to reduce it by 1.
